27.07.08 We were down in blessington at the weekend playing at the Knockanstockan Festival and it was an amazing time. Full of lovely people off their heads on class A drugs- watching us! Click HERE to see some of the pics from the events of the day!
06.07.08 We have confirmed the title of our new ep as "Visions from Eceloe Mountain". It's a journey of sorts and we ccan't wait for you all to hear it. The track listing is as follows: Super Mario 5 The Bees of the Future Robert Crumb Talking Surreal Virus with Footwear.
30.06.08 Ok so we've finished all the recording and mixing of our lovely little ep. Just some final tweaking to do on some of the songs and some design/packaging elements left and then it's off to be mastered. We've set a preliminary date for launch on the 7th August. However we'll know the exact date in the next week or two. It will be available as part of the entrance fee to the launch or alternatively if you don't make it along to the show it will be available as a free download though Drunken Lust Records. Below are some of the pics from the recording session:
22.05.08 We had the pleasure of seeing our favourite band Ween last Saturday night, in the Village, Dublin. Truly amazing show. Three solid hours of almighty browness. Took a photo or two, and some video clips which you can see here...
7.05.08 Latest gig news is that we'll be playing support to the wonderful Thomas Truax at the Ballroom of Romance in the lower deck on the 25th July 2008. Should be great night so tatoo it onto your arm. Also, we are really and truly sick of the look of this website, so we will be killing it and coming up with something new very soon.
27.04.08 Some gig announcements for May: 9th Boom Boom Room Dublin, Murrays O'Connell Street 15th Boom Boom Room Dublin, Murrays O'Connell Street, Supporting The Bastard Rain for their EP launch. Don't miss this one.
We will be releasing our new EP in late June or very early July, with a launch party and hard copy for all who attend, and also by free download from Drunken Lust. There will be 4 songs through the site and a fifth on the cd.
We will probably be employing the services of this little dish to be our dancer on the night...
28.03.08 Hey great news, we've joined a consortium of like minded bands through a website called drunken lust records. Only in it's early stages but it has such a great philosophy behind it, we couldn't turn down the offer to join. We'll be releasing a free download of a song or two through it in late April, along with some gigs to celebrate the release of our new EP. There will be 6 songs altogether and the songs sound amazing so far. Really looking forward to the coming months. Check out Drunken Lust and spread the word.
20.02.08 Ok, so we're playing in the harbour Bar on Saturday in Bray. All you people from Wicklow get over to this gig as it will be such a great night. We've got a beautiful young addition to our band. Her name is Phil and she is a drum whisperer. We are not joking. We also have 6 brand new H&S songs for broadcast on the night which we're very proad of. So, if you're in the area, please pop along. It's free in also...
in other news, we have recently severed ties with our former "Record Company" (snigger). Can't/don't want to say too much here, but suffice it to say that we were ripppppppped right off by it. So here is our first and last official statement addressed to whomever feels like they want to read it:
"Both members of Hoovers and Sledgehammers would like to state that their time, money, effort, laughter, sense of welll-being, and pints have been so wasted that it is a miracle that they are still a band. The previous (sinister) dealings between the Record Company and the band caused such unnessary internal conflict between band members that artistic generation of juices almost died. This would clearly have been a sad day. But thankfully, we as a unit were able to overcome the forces of evil and find inspiration from our experiences. We would like to issue a warning to bands who are approached by Record Companies who ask if they would like to "put out a single with NO cost to yourselves". Please question everything, especially if you are not happy with any aspect of the release and please, please, please ask yourself the following- why are they interested in me? To make money, or because they like you? We wish every hard working band all our most sincere good luck and to be aware of the negative forces that are at play every day in the music business"
25.01.08 Confirmed gig supporting the Bastard Rain on the 23rd Feb in The Harbour master Bray Co. Wicklow. Please come along- it's the last DART stop south-wards. We've exciting stuff to announce with great things happening over the coming months. Looks like 2008 will be a fantastic year for H&S. Two new demo songs are nearly ready and they sound like liquid gold. Peace.
15.01.08 A man of great importance in our H&S lives has told us a very learned thing:
You should not behave like that. Why would you behave like that. That is not how I would like you to behave, please?
New recordings in the form of "kill, the Bon Jovi Fan" and (working title) "I want to Hang In An Evil" coming very soon to our website and myspace.
30.12.07 Well it's that time of the year where we here at the H&S headquarters make our list of honorable and dis-honorable mentions from 2007. For those of you interested enough, please read on:
Honorable Mentions (in no particular order) Story of Hair- smashing band that spent a lot of time honing their sound and playing gigs outside Dublin during the year. Is that a funny thing to say? I think not- who wants to play The Mezz every fucking Monday night? They quite correctly and brilliantly declined a "record deal" from a conman and finished the year by self producing and releasing an amazing ep-The Ho Ho Ho Stamp, which enjoyed substantial sales through download and instore. They made an amazing video too...
Grand Pocket Orchestra-These guys have gone from strength to strength since the start of the year. We saw "them" in January, but actually it was only Paddy with his Harmonica, Guitar and stomping shoes. He tore the house down, literally. Few months later and he beefed up the band and then ended up supporting Fight lIke Apes in a sold out Whelans. They also made a fantastic video. See this band in 2008 as they have an extensive tour of Ireland in the pipes.
Fight Like Apes- Wow, we played with these guys way back in January and it was one of our favourite shows of the whole year. Was so full of energy- Earl even got up on stage with them and played the best version of Joyridin' ever performed. They played in New York during the year, played an extensive tour of UK and then played to a sold out crowd at Whelans- most recently have been nominated for 2 meteor awards. Hope 2008 brings them all things great.
The Bastard Rain- Holy shit, these men are the weirdest, most brilliant, most spectacular genius' of modern times- can't recommend these guys enough, They don't perform that often, so, if in 2008, you see their name on a poster, playing in a venue near you- GO see them. The science of music...
Dyson-Fantastic machinery.
Graham Linehan- voted in the top 100 geniuses of all time during the year- wow what an achievement- funny, intelligent, adored by fans and peers. Can he do NO wrong?I hear that the DVD's of Father Ted and The IT Crowd are top selling for christmas, this must make him millions more than he needs- but hey, he is a genius after all, so he deserves every penny/cent. Go Graham!!
Dis-honorable Mentions:
You know who you are...
5.12.07 Just one final gig before the end of the Year which is detailed below: 21st December-A celebration of the Christmas supporting the amazing Bastard Rain. Promises to be a good night as we have a lot of new songs to play for the first time to a live audience. We will be shutting down our live section until the new year as we will be going into our newly revamped rehersal/recording space to work on our new ep. We are looking forward to an early 2008 release which will be out on a great indie label-RedGoitre Records. Some interesting stuff has happened here at the h&s camp which I feel I must share with everyone (as a warning) but I will refrain from divulging the juicey details until further notice. Watch this space...
10.11.07 I made a video for Story of Hair- check it out HERE
02.09.2007 Upcoming gigs for September- Fibbers, Parnell Street, Dublin- 7th Boom Boom Room, Dublin 13th with Story of Hair and Grand Pocket Orchestra
18.08.2007 What the Fuck!!!??? It's been waaaaayyy too long between updates, but that's what happens when both Earl and Myself want to have children with each other (along with extensive touring and recording and other shite). Anyway, we will be back to normal around here at H&S.com from now on-updates every Monday-wow.
In other news, I have been working on a video for the wonderful Story of Hair, which is in it's final stages. I will put a pic of the little fucker who is the main star of the video next week!!
PLenty more gigs to come in the next few months. Watch this space.
Adios for now- Igor...
